Mechanical Engineer (HVAC, Utilities): Mid-Level

Walnut Creek Office

LEE + RO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (specializing in HVAC and/or utilities design) to join our energetic and growing team. As a mid-level Engineer, you will work with project managers and other team members across multiple disciplines to execute work on variety of HVAC, plumbing / utility, and fire suppression systems as needed in water and wastewater projects, and assist with other key aspects of design and construction support (e.g., technical writing, specifications, review construction submittals and RFIs, etc.). You must have experience in one or more of the following areas - designing the mechanical systems, calculating space heat and cooling loads, determining and selecting equipment sizes, and coordinating with vendors and manufacturers.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with project managers to lead a small team of engineers of various disciplines.
  • Prepare engineering design deliverables including calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and data analyses.
  • Support clients with pre-design tasks and alternative analyses.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with diverse project teams and disciplines.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, sub-consultants, and vendors.
  • Conduct occasional site visits during construction to ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Assist with construction support, including submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
  • Adhere to LEE + RO’s QA/QC process.
  • Participate in business development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • EIT Certification.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • HVAC design and construction support
    • Plumbing and utilities design including construction support
    • Fire suppression system design and construction support
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), AutoCAD, BlueBeam Revu.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interest in the water/wastewater industry.
  • 3-10 years of relevant experience in the design of the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems, including HVAC, centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • State of California PE Certification (Mechanical/Civil). If no CA PE Certification, then must be willing to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.

SALARY RANGE: $79,040 - $151,840/yr.

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and will be commensurate with the individual’s skills, experience, and education. These ranges are subject to modification in the future.

WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

All staff are expected to report to office in person at least three days a week (Tuesday-Thursday) and have the option of working remotely two days a week (Monday and Friday).

This position will be at our Walnut Creek office.
