WALNUT CREEK, Calif. October 15, 2020 — Water infrastructure engineering consultancy LEE + RO today announced that Aneal Shah, P.E., has joined the firm’s Walnut Creek office as a supervising engineer. Shah brings to the team more than 25 years of engineering and leadership experience in sustainable water. His professional areas of expertise include design and operational knowledge of activated sludge processes, membrane bioreactors, anaerobic digestion, advanced water treatment and water re-use.

Said Tony Park, vice president and head of LEE + RO’s Northern California operations: “We’re so pleased to have Aneal Shah join us because of his track record in executing complex and innovative water and wastewater projects. His work in implementing energy generating anaerobic treatments, membrane bioreactors and other tertiary treatment steps will be instrumental in expanding our services in these areas.

"I met with numerous firms and what stood out and excited me about LEE + RO is its people—their energy, their desire to learn, and their culture of easy collaboration between different levels and ages of engineers." said Shah. "It provides me with a home where I can expand my technical and leadership skills while also mentoring the next generation who have a huge responsibility in front of them."

Shah began his career as a wastewater process engineer, applying principles of microbiological, chemical, physical and mechanical processes in design and operations of treatment systems. His client engagements cover the spectrum, from municipalities and agencies, to major wineries and breweries across the country.

He is passionate about biological treatment and has helped troubleshoot these systems. He’s a fan of the hardworking bugs that clean our wastewaters and tries to keep these naturally occurring bugs happy by ensuring availability of the right environment, food and nutrients during the design process, thus allowing for optimal operations.

Growing up in India, Shah’s mom taught him that every waste product is a resource and to respect all things animate and inanimate. His dad inspired him to have a career to serve our environment and instilled his love for sports. Shah leads a cricket team in Sonoma that has won several North Bay cricket tournaments. He also enjoys reading and has been experimenting with meditation as of late. Aneal and his wife, Monica, just finished rebuilding their fire-destroyed home in Santa Rosa using Insulating Concrete Forms technology and are helping many of their neighbors to do the same.
